But just listening to Kate Bush with her sonata to a washing machine reminds us that without them we would be nothing, no more than simple gerbils running desperately around the wheel of life but with nowhere to get off - well that's wheels! - but instead of us doing endless loops and circles wishing here was more to our pointless existence the washing machines, dehumidifiers and fridges take care of the humdrum and ordinary parts of our life.
